Overview
We are building the foundational layers of our Physical AI Scientist platform: Physical AI that can operate scientific instruments with human-level dexterity, and Scientific AI that can analyze results, reason about next steps, and close the loop autonomously. As one of our first hires you will work very closely to build a flexible and reliable robotic automation solution. You will be responsible for designing, testing and implementing the hardware that our robots need to fully automate customer protocols. A love for operating in an experimental and fast‑paced environment is a must.
Responsibilities
Analyze, test, validate and iterate on mechanical systems
Create detailed designs in CAD and well‑specified, accurate drawings
Design, fabricate, test and iterate on hardware prototypes
Develop robotic solutions to manipulate and control biology tools designed for humans
Qualifications
Strong mechanical intuition and hardware debugging and assembly skills
Passion for the gritty details of part design, material selection, and manufacturing techniques
Experience with mechanical engineering tools and best practices in production to design components, produce drawings, and build assemblies
Experience designing, building, testing, and scaling hardware
A hacker’s mindset – getting quickly to a good‑enough solution
Hands‑on and willing to cross discipline boundaries to solve a problem
Know your way around rapid prototyping technology
Willingness to wear many hats / flexible attitude towards responsibilities and scope
BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
Bonus Points
Experience managing PLM/document control systems
Mechatronics and circuit design background
Knowledge of robotics, motion control, camera, force/torque sensors
Experience or familiarity with robot arm manipulators
Experience with robotics in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
Experience writing code for robotics systems
