Position Description The Institute for Biomedical Sciences at Georgia State University invites applications for Director of Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and professor faculty position to begin in August 2025. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Science or a related discipline. Prospective applicants should have an exceptional record of achievement in biomedical research, leadership, a commitment to biomedical science education, and a strong record of scholarly activity, including outstanding external federal funding. The candidate must provide evidence of the successful establishment of an internationally recognized research program and of excellence in innovative scholarly research, including student success activities. All areas of Biomedical Science will be considered, with preference given to candidates with expertise in the areas of microbial pathogenesis, inflammatory and infectious diseases, vaccine and drug development in infectious diseases, immunology, and inflammation. New faculty members will be supported by competitive start‑up packages and excellent laboratory space. Outstanding candidates will have the opportunity to be nominated as Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar. GRA Eminent Scholar are expected to engage in translational and/or economic development efforts in their field.

Required Experience Academic experience on the tenure‑track, involving leadership, research, teaching, and service at a higher education institution, is required for a minimum of 10 years.

Required Education Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Science or a related discipline at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications Prospective applicants should have an exceptional record of achievement in leading biomedical research, a commitment to biomedical science education, and a strong record of scholarly activity, including outstanding external federal funding. The candidate must provide evidence of the successful establishment of and leading an internationally recognized research program and of excellence in innovative scholarly research including student success activities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to lead an internationally recognized program in innovative scholarly research in translational biomedical science in particular in microbial pathogenesis.

Ability to effectively teach a variety of biomedical science courses offered by the institute.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve discipline, department, or college goals.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations None specified.

Pre-Employment Requirements A criminal background check is required.

Work Hours The position may require non‑standard hours (including day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend and/or other campus locations).

Salary Commensurate with experience.
