Regional Director of Business Development - Behavioral Health Summit Healthcare Management – Nashville, Tennessee

About the Job The Regional Director of Business Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing business development activities to drive success in the facilities or region assigned. The role manages and supports facility business development teams in alignment with the facility CEO, identifies opportunities at the facility level, sets strategic direction for the region’s markets, and facilitates communication across teams. The Director supports the Facility CEO in directing and managing business development efforts aimed at diversifying payer mix, increasing census, and expanding overall profitability of products and services.

Roles and Responsibilities

Oversee the performance and strategic direction of Facility Directors of Business Development.

Collaborate in the development and execution of market and bed expansion plans.

Participate in the creation and realization of revenue growth initiatives.

Identify opportunities and assist in developing key accounts and building relationships with referral institutions.

Act as Acting Director of Business Development at facilities with vacancies, managing operations while recruiting for the position.

Establish clear performance metrics and targets for business development directors and their teams.

Engage in fieldwork to support and bolster business development activities, ensuring hands‑on involvement and leadership.

Assist underperforming or challenged facilities in identifying and resolving issues to enhance overall performance and success.

Facilitate training and professional development opportunities for business development staff at designated facilities.

Execute strategy for successful diversification of payer mix to achieve facility revenue targets.

Interview facility directors to assess and diagnose perceived issues and opportunities for success.

Deliver organized communication between facility teams and the corporate team.

Recruit and identify viable candidates for the business development team when applicable.

Identify opportunities for facility admissions and clinical teams to collect client information and demographics for use by BD teams.

Research regional markets, distinguish unique business segments, and manage strategic accounts, working with the Division Vice President, Divisional BD, Facility CEO, and admissions teams to develop targeted objectives and strategic plans.

Strengthen customer loyalty by building a positive regional reputation and brand awareness, creating a culture of concierge customer service within facilities.

Design and implement approved processes to grow and diversify the referent portfolio, increasing overall census and profitability.

Maintain alignment of communication between Business Development and facility operations.

Identify areas of concern, troubleshoot solutions, engage relevant staff, and provide execution support.

Ensure monthly analysis of key indicators versus budget and prior periods, addressing issues with strategic corrective actions.

Provide feedback to leadership and VPs on the performance of facility Business Development staff.

Analyze market trends to inform strategic business decisions and forecast.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health area, marketing, business administration, or related field (required); Master’s degree preferred.

Five or more years of related experience in healthcare business development and marketing, preferably in behavioral health or substance use.

Good understanding of regional and national markets.

Ability to create and develop referral sources.

Knowledge of psychiatric and chemical dependency treatments.

Well‑developed relational skills.

Licenses and Certifications Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Supervisory Requirements Three or more years of supervisory/management experience required, preferably in behavioral health.
