Summary Become an anesthetist, providing anesthesia for patients undergoing surgical, medical, obstetrical, diagnostic, psychiatric, or resuscitative procedures, using general, regional, or monitored anesthesia.
Responsibilities
Assess patients pre-operatively, including history and physical, develop anesthesia plan of care, document assessment and plan, explain care, risks and benefits to patient and family, and assemble equipment and drugs.
Meet annual departmental quality metrics for turnover times, on‑time starts, and QI submissions.
Attend continuing education and professional meetings, participate in institutional and departmental committees, and contribute to the clinical learning experience of other health care professionals.
Contribute to performance improvement by evaluating problem areas, planning and implementing measures to assure improvement in patient outcomes, assisting in data collection, and participating in Impact Care activities.
Maintain anesthesia records, Impact Care reports, and other documents in a legible manner.
Provide anesthesia, performing the ASA-approved checklist of equipment, administering anesthesia in accordance with the Department of Anesthesiology standards of care, placing appropriate lines and monitors, adjusting care and notifying appropriate personnel in abnormal situations, transporting patients at the end of the case, reporting pertinent information, and documenting anesthesia care.
Other Information Education Requirements
Completion of a Nurse Anesthesia program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina.
Board certification if required by the Department.
Professional Experience Requirements
No prior experience required.
