The salary range for this position is $36.50 - $58.40 (Hourly Rate). Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. On the nursing floor, the registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of clinically competent, evidence‑based care for an assigned group of patients. The RN adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing, the Code of Ethics, and the Nursing Social Policy Statement. As a member of the clinical care and unit team, the RN participates in decision‑making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve exceptional outcomes and enhance unit operations.
Responsibilities Advocate: Practices in accordance with the patient‑centered care model; develops individualized, age‑specific culturally sensitive nursing plans; incorporates patient advocacy; uses a team approach to achieve individualized care goals; acknowledges and values contributions of significant others; identifies potential conflict situations and facilitates resolution; promotes patient health, safety and rights; protects patients by maintaining a safe environment.
Clinical Expert: Advances clinical expertise through continuing education and specialty certification; continuously enhances skills for highest quality patient care; educates team members, patients and students; demonstrates critical thinking and poses relevant clinical questions; identifies priorities, sets realistic and measurable goals; implements nursing interventions safely and timely; develops educational plans; evaluates patient responses; escalates interventions; participates in team goal formation, evaluation, delegation and supervision; communicates accurately at hand‑off; adheres to ethical standards.
Community Volunteer: Participates in one or more volunteer initiatives annually, Northwestern Memorial organized or on his/her own.
Compassionate: Demonstrates interpersonal connections with patients and families; proactively responds to patient concerns; treats all with respect and dignity; facilitates recovery and supports peaceful death.
Professionally Engaged: Member of professional organization or Northwestern Memorial committee; collaborates with co‑workers and disciplines; pursues professional growth; mentors and pre‑certifies team members; conducts peer feedback; collaborates with hospital services; participates in policy development and quality improvement; ensures compliance with internal and external requirements; seeks innovation; maintains professional image.
Qualifications Required
Graduate of an NLN accredited school/college of nursing
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher
Current State of Illinois, Registered Professional Nurse license
Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR through American Heart Association.
Analytic ability (conceptual and quantitative)
Oral, listening and written communication skills
Strong human relation skills to interact effectively and collaborate with others in difficult situations
Use of a keyboard to enter or retrieve data
Preferred
Experience in specific clinical area
Nursing specialty certification, if eligible
