Best Buy
Job Description
As the
Marketplace Business Development Lead , you’ll be a strategic leader responsible for driving growth and shaping the assortment strategy for Best Buy’s Marketplace. You will oversee the end‑to‑end business development approach, build a strong inbound and outbound pipeline while ensuring monthly close rates align with marketplace goals. You will collaborate closely with the 1P category teams and marketplace seller growth teams to evaluate market opportunities and develop acquisition strategies that attract new accounts, expand assortment, and increase inventory. This position is ideal for a player‑coach—someone who can actively engage in high‑value deals and partnerships while guiding the team to exceed sales targets. The successful candidate combines strong leadership, analytical thinking, and marketplace expertise to influence category expansion, enhance the seller experience, and deliver measurable GMV growth.
This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days at our corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota, and some days virtually from home or another non‑Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.
What you’ll do
Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to attract and retain high‑value sellers across key marketplace‑led categories.
Lead and manage outbound and inbound sales initiatives across multiple channels to grow Best Buy’s seller pipeline.
Drive complex deal negotiations to establish strong, long‑term partnerships with sellers.
Optimize sales operations processes, including lead generation, pipeline management, forecasting, and performance tracking.
Gather and act on seller feedback, partnering with cross‑functional teams (e.g., technology, site, partner support) to continuously enhance the platform and seller experience.
Provide thought leadership on emerging trends, competitive dynamics, and category opportunities to inform recruitment strategies and influence the Marketplace roadmap.
Collaborate closely with the Go To Market team to deliver compelling, tailored value propositions and upsell marketplace solutions (e.g., advertising, logistics support) to maximize seller performance and product adoption.
Establish KPIs and detailed measurement plans for the Business Development team, ensuring clear goals aligned with Marketplace objectives and consistent progress reporting to senior leadership.
Manage, coach, and develop a high‑performing team of business developers to consistently achieve acquisition goals and revenue targets.
Basic qualifications
6 years of experience in business development, account management, sales, or related areas.
