Primary Responsibilities The South Central Region Drinking Water Market Sector ("MS") Leader will lead the development and implementation of business strategies across the South Central Region in coordination with Regional Business Group leadership, operational leadership, client managers and Business Class Directors. Responsible to the Drinking Water Market Sector Director, the Leader creates and monitors frequent communication across the region to implement strategic plans and marketing opportunities for the sector, supporting growth across multiple service lines.

Business Development Responsibilities

Incorporate our corporate and Water business vision within the market sector to become the industry leader.

Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients within the region and be active and visible in the industry.

Work with client managers to promote all HDR services to Drinking Water clients.

Participate as a member of the South Central Region Water Business Group Management Team.

Work with Regional Business Group Managers to develop and deliver market sector initiatives.

Support client development and pursue strategies based on proven capture techniques.

Provide direct support to selected pursuits through relationship development, strategy, and technical differentiation.

Actively participate in industry associations in leadership roles.

Identify key investments that maintain or advance HDR’s industry leadership.

Support regional marketing capabilities to achieve Drinking Water MS booking goals.

Develop relationships with industry counterparts in consulting and construction firms.

Develop relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations.

Staff Development Responsibilities

Seek opportunities to enhance performance and win new work within the marketplace.

Mentor and grow staff capabilities through project delivery leadership.

Identify and recruit prospective future market sector employees.

Provide input for Area work‑sharing efforts and broader Water Business Group initiatives.

Coordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires and support local leadership.

Lead the region in identifying needs for new and improved technical services and products.

Drive technical excellence and coordinate staff to promote quality delivery and the Drive to Zero initiative.

Support to Operations

Assist Region and Area Business Group leadership in key project delivery by acting as Principal in Charge and supporting the QA/QC program.

Facilitate cooperation, eliminate barriers, and implement process improvements.

Help manage staff workload and promote work‑sharing within the sector.

Assist with contract review on key projects, managing risk and quality reviews.

Engage in the PARR process and promote Quality Assurance/Quality Control.

Facilitate dissemination of lessons learned, best practices, and delivery tools.

Take on Project Management and Principal in Charge assignments to drive client satisfaction and staff development.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 20+ years of experience in drinking water planning, engineering design, client development, and project management; majority within public and private drinking water clients and utilities.

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an accredited civil or environmental engineering program.

Professional engineering registration in one or more Central region states.

Experienced in strategic positioning and technical differentiation for planning and/or engineering services.

Experienced in managing a wide range of client relationships and program/project pursuits.

Experienced in overall staff development, including recruiting, career path development, and professional growth.

Active involvement in industry associations and visible profile in the sector.

Ability to collaborate with Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, and other senior leaders.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or a related field.

A minimum of 10 years of industry experience.

Experienced in development and management of strategic marketing programs for architecture, engineering, or planning services.

Experienced in developing and managing a wide range of client relationships and program/project pursuits.

Experienced in overall staff development, including recruiting, career path development, and professional growth.

Experienced with industry associations and maintains a visible profile in the sector.

Ability to work cooperatively with stakeholders across the organization.
