The Role As a

Software Engineer, Systems , you’ll design and implement the low-level capabilities of Daft’s distributed data engine. You’ll work on everything from execution engine internals to query optimization, distributed scheduling, and integrations with modern data lakes. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll shape both the product and its technical foundation while collaborating closely with customers and the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Build core system internals and distributed architecture for the Daft data engine.

Optimize query planning and execution using modern database techniques.

Improve memory stability through streaming computation and efficient data structures.

Enhance task scheduling, resource utilization, and fault tolerance.

Develop integrations with Apache Parquet, Iceberg, Delta Lake, and other modern data lake technologies.

Engage with customers, debug workloads, and help shape product direction.

Contribute broadly to infrastructure, design, and system performance improvements.

Candidate Requirements

8+ years of experience in systems programming (C++, Rust, or C).

Proven track record building distributed systems, databases, or data engines.

Strong knowledge of operating systems, compilers, or query optimizers.

Experience with large‑scale system design and performance optimization.

Bonus: startup experience at Series A–C companies selling infrastructure products.

Ability to thrive in a fast‑moving, collaborative environment with high ownership.
