Position: Infection Prevention Specialist/Wound Care Nurse (RN) We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced
Registered Nurse (RN)
to assume the dual role of
Infection Prevention Specialist
and
Wound Care Nurse . This critical position will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of our infection control program while also providing specialized wound, ostomy, and continence care services to our residents.
Key Responsibilities Infection Prevention Specialist
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive, facility-wide Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Conduct routine surveillance activities for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), including data collection, analysis, and reporting to identify trends and outbreaks.
Provide education and training to staff, residents, and visitors on infection control policies, hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Investigate potential outbreaks of communicable diseases and coordinate with local public health authorities.
Monitor and audit compliance with infection control practices, making recommendations for process improvement.
Wound Care Nurse
Perform comprehensive wound assessments, including evaluating wound size, depth, drainage, and tissue type.
Develop and implement individualized wound care treatment plans in collaboration with the resident's physician.
Provide direct wound care, including cleaning, debridement (within scope of practice), and application of appropriate dressings and topical agents.
Monitor and document the progress of wound healing, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
Educate residents and their families on wound care management, prevention strategies, and recognizing signs of complications.
Qualifications
Required:
Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois.
Required:
Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, preferably long-term care or a skilled nursing facility.
Highly Preferred:
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or commitment to achieving certification.
Highly Preferred:
Certification in Wound Care (e.g., WCC, CWCN, or CWS).
Strong knowledge of infection control principles, surveillance methods, and regulatory requirements (CMS, IDPH).
Demonstrated expertise in wound assessment, staging, and treatment modalities.
Excellent communication, organizational, and teaching skills.
