About This Role The Principal Manufacturing Engineer will lead the design and development of manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling. This client-facing role is critical in ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient manufacturing solutions for medical devices and instruments. You will serve as a technical leader, mentor engineering staff, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive innovation and operational excellence.
What You’ll Do
Lead the design and development of manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies and equipment.
Resolve complex technical issues across manufacturing operations.
Analyze manufacturing process flows for quality enhancements, cost reduction, and throughput improvements.
Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
Engage in client-facing interactions and deliver technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with cross-functional teams.
Provide training, guidance, and support to manufacturing engineering staff; lead and mentor engineers.
Maintain duties and responsibilities of Lead Manufacturing Engineer on programs.
Contribute to business development initiatives and assist management with team-building activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
7-10 years of relevant work experience (Master’s degree: 4–7 years; PhD: 2–5 years).
In-depth knowledge of the medical device industry, CAD packages, process development, and process validation.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to solve complex technical problems and effectively manage multiple tasks and projects.
Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of manufacturing techniques and equipment utilization.
Experience in business development activities.
Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory compliance.
Location Hybrid in Providence, RI.
Travel May require occasional travel to OEM factories, suppliers, and client sites.
