Position Overview
The Vice President of Operations will lead and oversee all operational aspects of a growing utility construction company specializing in gas and underground electrical infrastructure. This executive role requires a strategic leader with a proven track record in business development, operational excellence, and safety leadership. The VP of Operations will drive profitability, foster strong relationships with utilities, municipalities, and developers, and ensure compliance with union labor agreements while maintaining a culture of safety and performance. Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute strategies to expand market share and revenue through new and existing relationships with utilities, municipalities, and developers. Identify and pursue opportunities for growth in gas and underground electrical construction projects. Represent the company in industry associations, networking events, and client meetings to strengthen partnerships. Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Full P&L responsibility for operational divisions, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control. Champion a culture of safety across all operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies. Manage union labor relations, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements. Collaborate with HR to recruit, develop, and retain top talent for operational roles. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent experience. Minimum 10+ years of leadership experience in utility construction, with a focus on gas and underground electrical projects. Proven success in business development and relationship management with utilities, municipalities, and developers. Strong understanding of union labor practices and experience managing unionized workforces. Demonstrated ability to manage P&L and deliver profitable growth. Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills. Commitment to safety and operational excellence. Preferred Skills
Knowledge of Southern California utility market and regulatory environment. Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects and complex stakeholder coordination. Ability to drive innovation and adopt new technologies in construction operations.
