Job Description

In this role you will conduct assays in alignment with the company’s CLIA quality management systems. Schedule: Sunday – Thursday, 12:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Responsibilities

Independently perform laboratory tests with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring all procedures comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and CLIA regulations.

Follow established quality control policies, and accurately document all QC activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance tasks.

Handle and process specimens, perform analyses, report results, and maintain detailed records of patient testing according to laboratory protocols.

Adhere to established procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance standards.

Recognize and resolve issues that could impact test accuracy or reporting, or promptly elevate them to the appropriate supervisor or director.

Record all corrective actions taken when deviations from performance specifications occur.

Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshoot complex instrument or assay issues, and document all findings to ensure uninterrupted testing.

Identify workflow inefficiencies, propose improvements, and take a leadership role in implementing process enhancements.

Participate in Proficiency Testing Evaluations and ensure proficiency samples are analyzed using the same procedures as patient specimens, maintaining all required records.

Serve as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee, contributing to the review and documentation of laboratory quality procedures.

Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, and support the laboratory during inspections and audits.

Collaborate on cross-departmental initiatives and operational improvement projects.

Lead internal process improvement efforts focused on cost efficiency and turnaround time optimization.

Contribute to assay validation and development activities, including enhancing and drafting standard operating procedures.

Assist with the training and competency assessment of testing personnel on Decipher Assays and related instrumentation.

Prepare quality control materials and serve as a subject matter expert in resolving complex instrument or assay-related issues.

Required Skills

Licensure:

Active California Department of Public Health Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license or Clinical Genomics Molecular Biology Scientist (CGMBS) license — required, no exceptions.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent professional experience.

Alternatively, an associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological) or in medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent training and experience meeting CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489 requirements.

Experience:

Minimum of 4 years of molecular laboratory experience demonstrating technical competency and independence in a clinical setting.

Technical Skills:

Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Strong attention to detail and proficiency with laboratory technology.

Experience with high-complexity clinical testing, preferably in molecular diagnostics.

Familiarity with molecular testing methods such as PCR, microarray, and Sanger or next-generation sequencing (NGS) is highly desirable.

Proficient computer skills across multiple platforms and applications.

Continuing Education:

Maintains all continuing education units (CEUs) required by the California Department of Health Services and the New York State Department of Health.
