The Advance Practice Provider within the Section of Nephrology provides direct medical services to patients within their scope of expertise. Works in a team that includes physicians, fellows, technicians, nurses, etc. to provide quality patient care in relation to the patient's described diagnosis treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.

The ideal candidate will provide inpatient coverage Monday through Friday for 8 hours per day, as-needed inpatient coverage on weekends, and rotating outpatient clinic coverage. Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience as an advanced practice provider (APP). Onsite presence is required during the training period to ensure successful onboarding and integration into the team.

KEY FUNCTIONS 1. Patient Care

Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations for both new and established patients, ensuring accurate documentation of findings.

Prepare and dictate medical records in a thorough and precise manner to comply with billing standards and Joint Commission (JCAHO) requirements.

Review, interpret, and order appropriate diagnostic tests and imaging studies; ensure timely follow‑up and communication of results.

Collaborate in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans specific to Nephrology, incorporating evidence‑based practices.

Manage common general medical conditions in alignment with departmental protocols and patient needs.

Prescribe medications in accordance with departmental delegated prescriptive authority guidelines, ensuring safety and efficacy.

2. Patient Education

Deliver clear and comprehensive education to patients regarding their medical condition, treatment options, potential benefits, associated risks, and alternative therapies.

Foster patient engagement and understanding to support informed decision‑making and adherence to care plans.

3. Research

Contribute to departmental research initiatives by gathering and reviewing protocol information relevant to the patient population.

Conduct patient interviews and assess eligibility criteria to identify candidates for clinical trials and protocol studies.

Ensure compliance with research standards and ethical guidelines while supporting data collection and documentation processes.

EDUCATION

Required: Master’s Degree Nursing. or

Required: Doctorate Nursing Practice.

Degree may be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003.

Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred: At least one year of experience in an Advance Practice Provider role.
