Founding Engineer, Platform & Infrastructure

San Francisco, CA | Full-time | On-site
Compensation:
$160k - $200k + Equity (0.5% – 3%)
About the Role This is your opportunity to be a founding engineer at a seed-stage startup building the next-generation cloud data platform. You’ll work directly with the co-founders to design and develop infrastructure and platform systems that route queries to the most optimal engines. If you enjoy building distributed systems from the ground up, optimizing performance and cost, and owning core technical milestones, this is the role for you.
What You Will Do
Infrastructure Ownership
– Manage and optimize Kubernetes clusters, service meshes, and cloud deployments.
DevOps & Platform Development
– Build scalable, automated infrastructure using Terraform, Docker, Istio, Envoy, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Monitoring & Observability
– Implement tools to track system health, performance, and reliability.
End-to-End Ownership
– Take charge of platform architecture, deployments, and performance optimization.
Collaborate Closely
– Work with a small, high-energy founding team to shape platform direction and technical strategy.
What Will You Bring
4–5+ years of experience in
platform/infrastructure engineering , ideally as an early-stage hire.
Deep experience with
Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD, service meshes, and cloud platforms .
Track record of
automating infrastructure and optimizing cost vs. performance .
Bonus: experience at a
database company
or with distributed data systems.
Comfort working in a
fast-paced, early-stage startup environment .
Collaborative, high-energy, and enjoys a quirky small-team culture.
