$100,000- $115,000 A well-established nonprofit organization in Pittsburgh is seeking an experienced accounting leader to oversee its financial operations. The organization is committed to mission-driven work, fostering innovation, and maintaining financial integrity while serving a diverse community. This role offers an opportunity to lead a dynamic accounting team and play a key role in strategic financial planning.

The Director of Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for managing all accounting functions and ensuring the organization's financial health. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and oversees a team of accounting professionals. The Director of Accounting will provide strategic guidance, implement best practices, and maintain compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulations.

OVERVIEW OF THE DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING ROLE:

  • Direct and manage all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, fund accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and student or client billing as applicable.
  • Lead preparation, review, and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • The Director of Accounting will oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes in collaboration with senior management and department leaders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to leadership, the board, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff to foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
  • The Director of Accounting will manage external audits and act as the primary liaison with auditors.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
  • Evaluate financial systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals and initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING ROLE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive accounting experience, including financial management in a nonprofit environment.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, endowments, or higher education financial management.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both verbal and written). xrczosw
