Teaching at Perry Street Prep We are recruiting a Reading Interventionist for the 2025-26 school year. Teaching positions at Perry Street Prep are full-time, salaried, 10-month positions.

The Reading Specialist provides explicit English Language Arts instruction in a one-to-one or small group setting to improve individual students’ literacy skills. The Reading Specialist designs and creates intervention plans aligned with regular classroom literacy objectives and tailored to each child or small group. The Reading Specialist utilizes evidence-based intervention curricula (LLI, Wilson Reading, Fundations, CKLA, etc) to deliver instruction and frequent assessment (Fountas & Pinell, NWEA MAP, and running records)to inform planning. The Reading Specialist monitors student progress and adjusts instruction as needed to increase student achievement in English Language Arts.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Collaborates with classroom teachers to identify students in need of literacy intervention Provides and delivers focused reading intervention instruction to students in small groups and one-on-one settings through push-in and pullout for the purpose of improving student outcomes and achievement Serves as a content specialist to assist in the development and implementation of ELA instruction Serves as a literacy resource to regular classroom teachers by assisting them in organizing their reading program, selecting materials, and relating their instructional program to the differentiated needs of students Models effective strategies for teaching struggling readers in the classroom; Facilitates professional development in the areas of school wide literacy strategies, small group and whole group literacy instruction Facilitates and performs literacy screenings Understands and interprets assessment data, both formal and informal, to inform instructional decisions and flexible student grouping Frequently monitors progress of students receiving intervention services in order to adjust instructional practice and student grouping Seeks out and participates in appropriate professional development opportunities; Applies the values of urgency, rigor, and consistency to create a positive learning environment that promotes high expectations Establishes and implements effective classroom management procedures, and maintains productive, safe, and focused learning environment Communicates with students, parents, school staff to ensure that students are on-track in their learning and making progress towards goals Contributes to the school community through participation, professionalism, collegiality, and passion Performs any other duties as assigned by school leadership

Qualifications Perry Street Prep is seeking educators with the following education, experience, and personal philosophy:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required, master’s degree preferred Two or more years of teaching experience as an elementary or middle school teacher in an urban environment with a strong record of student achievement preferred A belief that all students can learn A desire to be an active part of a diverse community of educators, scholars, and families A strong work ethic, individual drive, and an ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
