Diagnostic Radiology

Diagnostic radiology functions include performing a variety of tasks involved in operating ultrasound equipment to assist in patient exams of designated body portions. Preparing ultrasound equipment for portable and non-portable exams. Always reviews inpatient chart/EMR or outpatient order and confirms the clinical indication for the exam and other pertinent information. Explain ultrasound exams to patients and address any special needs the patient may have. Position patients for each ultrasound exam as necessary. Transport patients to and from all departments of x-ray (including Mammography, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, Angio, and CT). Charge ultrasound procedures in Meditech able to modify orders. Demonstrate acceptable film quality standards by critiquing positioning and scanning techniques. Understands and uses PACS systems. Interns must have direct supervision when performing trauma portable and operating room exams. Interns can only perform exams that they have successfully completed a competency on within their program guidelines. Qualified technologists need to be immediately available or have physical presence to always assist interns. In the setting of the Imaging Center at Augusta Health interns will work under the supervision of an ARDMS registered Sonographer.
