About the Potawatomi Zoo Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums since 1987, the Potawatomi Zoo is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join a rapidly growing facility. Since 2018 the Zoo has invested over $20 million in capital improvements, taking this once small community zoo to a modern zoological facility focused on its mission of conservation and education. This is an exciting time of change and an opportunity for the right person to make a huge impact on the Zoo’s future. Events Manager Position Reporting to the Director of Guest Experience, the Potawatomi Zoo is seeking a highly motivated individual to manage all aspects of the zoo’s guest experience special events. This hands-on position will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and operations of existing events while working strategically with the Director of Guest Experience to add additional opportunities for guest engagement. This position focuses on public-facing events and will not have direct oversight of the Development Department’s fundraising gala or donor-related events, but will assist the Development Department as needed in the setup and implementation of these activities. Essential Functions: Plan, manage and execute all major public events including Zoo Luminate Lantern Festival, Zoo Brew, Zoo Boo, and Gift of Lights. Help brainstorm, develop, and grow a robust Zoo events schedule. Coordinate with the Development Department on sponsorship levels and partnership opportunities for Zoo events. Serve as the point of contact for third-party event vendors. Responsible for third-party invoice submissions and payments. Evaluate and refine events to positively impact attendance and increase revenue. Serve as liaison with all departments, committees, and staff on event activities. This includes consistent communication and delegation. Coordinate with Marketing and Communications Manager for all marketing and PR for Zoo events. Responsible for growing existing event revenue and attendance while establishing and following annual budgets. Establish, communicate, and follow appropriate timeline criteria for all events and ensure staffing of all events is being communicated appropriately among departments. Experience Required

Qualifications:• Ability to work a flexible schedule, weekends and evenings.• Excellent communications skills; including writing, editing and public speaking.• Extensive computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Excel,Word and Publisher.• Excellent organizational skills are required.• Strong marketing and communication skills are essential.• 3-5 years of professional event planning experience is required.• Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field preferred but not required.• Ability to multitask and work under the stresses of managing a high-volume special event while being able to pivot and adjust to the unexpected is a must.• Valid driver’s license.• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.• Ability to pass a background check.• Ability to kneel, squat, bend, lift, climb, and stand for prolonged periods of time.• Able to work in all weather conditions.
