MuleSoft Systems Integration Engineer
Job Summary
This position is considered Flexible / Rotation. The employee will work a rotational schedule to ensure on‑site coverage of key IT functions. The engineer leads the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of real‑time integration and interfaces between applications at UCSF Health, Benioff Children’s Hospitals, and affiliated systems that support patient care, medical faculty, clinical staff, administrative staff, and information services. The role reports to the Integration Services Manager and is the subject‑matter expert on data integration in healthcare. The engineer gathers information from users, defines work problems, translates requirements into integration solutions, provides support for existing interfaces, and assists in delivering innovative integrated solutions to UCSF Health, Benioff Children’s Hospitals, and partners.
Department Description UCSF IT Integration Services is the central group that provides integration solutions across the UCSF enterprise and beyond. It offers integration platforms and expertise to build robust, reusable, and cost‑efficient interfaces for reliable data sharing and exchange between applications, platforms, and services. The team builds new integrations from scratch, reuses existing solutions, enhances integrations, and provides consulting to achieve integration needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
5+ years of hands‑on integration experience, including tools/vendors such as JBoss Fuse, DellBoomie, IBM WebSphere, Oracle Fusion, etc.
Certification: Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer II.
Advanced knowledge of systems integration deploying complex solutions.
Advanced skills in system integration design, modification, implementation, and deployment in a complex environment.
Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs of the campus/medical center and how systems can support those needs.
Demonstrated ability to interface with senior‑level technical and non‑technical management on a regular basis.
Demonstrated ability to create software specifications.
Experience with the identification and use of code libraries and open‑source forums.
Demonstrated ability to identify software and hardware interdependences in a complex multi‑platform environment.
Demonstrated ability to develop solutions for complex business and systems/custom/ad‑hoc solutions.
Experience with complex multi‑platform troubleshooting in a multi‑platform environment.
Preferred Qualifications
3 years of hands‑on experience with MuleSoft Platform – ESB, CloudHub, and API Management.
2+ years of hands‑on experience with Salesforce integration projects, including API development and data synchronization.
3+ years of experience writing, optimizing, and managing SQL queries and database operations.
1+ year of experience leveraging AI technologies, including machine learning models, AI‑powered automation, or intelligent data processing solutions.
Epic or Healthcare API/FHIR experience.
HL7 v2 knowledge.
Epic Interconnect knowledge.
Demonstrated ability to develop complex conversion and system implementation plans.
Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
Experience developing and implementing complex project plans.
Experience researching and evaluating new technology and solutions for complex environments.
Ability to impart knowledge to senior level technical and non‑technical audiences and influence outcomes to meet objectives.
Advanced knowledge and experience with monitoring tools, performance, and system optimization, including intermediate knowledge of security for data, data transfer, and systems.
Epic Bridges Certification.
Agile/Scrum Certification.
Cloverleaf level 1 Certification.
License/Certification
Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer II.
