A reasonable estimated salary range for this position is $131,600–$147,900, inclusive of the salary scale and off‑scale salary components.

Position Description The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UC Davis invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor faculty position in the area of computational materials science with interests that may include, but are not limited to, quantum materials, multiscale modeling, and data‑driven design of materials. Experience with the use of machine learning or artificial intelligence is desirable but not required. This search is part of UC Davis' commitment to hiring leading research faculty with a strong dedication to teaching, research, and service that aligns with the institution's goals of improving educational access and addressing the needs of increasingly diverse state, student and faculty populations.

Develop an internationally impactful funded research program that complements or extends the Department's research strengths.

Teach materials science and engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Contribute to collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts aligned with the Department's vision for advancing engineering materials and developing materials‑based solutions to technological challenges.

Provide high‑quality mentoring that promotes the professional development of graduate students.

Contribute to the College of Engineering's Next Level Strategic Vision and participate in service consistent with UC Davis' shared governance model.

Qualifications Basic qualifications

Ph.D. or advanced to candidacy in materials science and engineering or a closely related field.

Additional qualifications

Ph.D. in materials science and engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
