Job Summary The Chief of Staff, Commercial is responsible for driving the execution of the commercial strategy, ensuring operational alignment across commercial functions, and enhancing overall organizational effectiveness. As Chief of Staff, you will serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the CCO, leading cross-functional initiatives and helping to prioritize and execute on key business goals. The position works closely with senior leaders across sales, marketing, trading, business development, regulatory affairs, power customer solutions, and customer operations to align commercial efforts with the company’s long-term objectives. The Chief of Staff builds strong internal and external relationships, compiles and updates team and company KPIs, and provides data and insights for steering committee, board, investor, and other calls and conferences. Responsibilities
Typical job responsibilities of the Chief of Staff-Commercial include: Drive the development and execution of commercial strategies aligned with the company’s business goals and regulatory landscape. Assist in identifying market opportunities, partnership models, and growth initiatives in the natural gas value chain (e.g., upstream, midstream, downstream, LNG, storage, power customer solutions). Collaborate across functions to ensure seamless execution of commercial priorities. Project Management and Execution
Lead and coordinate projects on behalf of the CCO, ensuring timely delivery, quality outputs, and cross-functional accountability. Compile and update team and company KPIs and commercial metrics, translating complex data into executive-ready insights and recommendations to the CCO. Manage critical path deliverables related to commercial contracts, customer relationships, pricing strategies, and supply chain optimization. Facilitate decision-making by gathering data, analyzing trends, and providing actionable insights. Identify and implement process improvements to streamline operations within the commercial function. Operational and Administrative Support
Coordinate regular reviews, business updates, and executive briefings. Develop presentation material for the Steering Committee, Board, investor, industry, conference, or other stakeholder purposes on behalf of the CCO. Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a liaison between the CCO and internal/external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and issue resolution. Coordinate external engagements with strategic partners, industry bodies, government agencies, and joint venture stakeholders. Act as a filter and gatekeeper for communications and decision requests directed at the CCO. Team Leadership and Culture
Drive accountability and support projects across the commercial leadership team. Mentor and guide commercial analysts and coordinators, driving knowledge sharing and skill development. Lead special projects and perform other duties as required. Required Skills
Advanced ability to work cross-departmentally, develop others and influence the organization to achieve results. 7+ years’ experience in strategy, operations, or consulting within the natural gas value chain (upstream, midstream, power generation, or CCUS preferred). Strong understanding of commercial functions such as sales, trading, marketing, and business development. Working knowledge of natural gas regulatory landscape and commercial contracting frameworks. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Smartsheet and job-related applications. Ability to thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Expert interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills. Advanced attention to detail, organization and prioritization. Advanced cognitive, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Growth mindset with an advanced ability to innovate, embrace change and have grit. Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Typically requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Physical Demands / Working Conditions
This position is in Houston, Texas. Flexible working conditions will be considered. Indoor working environment that requires the ability to perform repetitive motions and operate standard office equipment. May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others. Some travel up to 25% may be required.
