Director – Economic Sanctions & Export Controls
KPMG US is seeking a Director to lead our Legal Risk Management Compliance team, focusing on export controls, sanctions, and technology controls for complex engagements.
Responsibilities
Oversee regulatory horizon scanning, change management, and risk register maintenance for export control exposures.
Develop, maintain, and update export control policies, including DDTC registration and ITAR/EAR compliance.
Design and deliver training programs for engagement teams and stakeholders on export control obligations.
Establish monitoring mechanisms, perform periodic control testing, and prepare compliance dashboards for leadership review.
Lead investigations into potential export control violations, develop corrective action plans, and coordinate remediation with audit and regulatory bodies.
Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG’s courteous work environment.
Qualifications
Minimum ten years of recent experience in sanctions and export controls; prior experience in a multi-stakeholder environment is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or Juris Doctor and certifications such as CECP are preferred.
Deep knowledge of U.S. export control regulations (ITAR, EAR) and DDTC requirements.
Strong understanding of federal contracting requirements, CUI handling, and regulatory risk management.
Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and senior leadership.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment‑based visa sponsorship.
