Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer
Leidos is seeking a Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer to design protection and control projects for electric utilities ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. This role provides exposure to the integration of renewable energy into the electric system and requires knowledge of digital logic, AC and DC circuit design.
Hybrid Schedule & Location Hybrid schedule: 2–4 days in office per week.
Must be located in or able to relocate to the United States within the client‑servicing territory for the Walled Lake, MI office.
Key Responsibilities
Relay one‑line, three‑line AC, and DC protection schematic design.
Panel layout, wiring design, and bill of materials development.
Quality control checks on wiring design.
Complete project lifecycle support from scoping to final design and implementation.
Construction support and application of the National Electrical Safety Code.
Implement client standards and work with designers/drafter to generate required drawings.
Qualifications — Must Have
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 4+ years of substation protection‑control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience.
Experience executing substation protection and control projects.
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients.
Ability to read and design one‑line drawings, three‑line drawings, AC/DC schematic drawings, and wiring design.
Deadline‑oriented collaborator and self‑starter with strong analytical skills.
High level of computer competency and strong written and oral communication skills.
Willingness to travel to project and/or client sites.
Preferred Experience & Certifications
Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
Experience performing quality control checks on small substation protection and control design projects.
Proficiency with CAD tools such as SDS AutoCAD Electrical and Bentley ProjectWise data‑management system.
Master’s degree in a related field.
Field testing/commissioning experience.

Compensation Pay Range $87,100.00 – $157,450.00.
