Overview Sentara is hiring a Cardiac Surgical Technologist II at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.

Shift Details:
Hours are four 10‑hour shifts: 6‑4:30 pm, 7‑5:30 pm, or 9‑7:30 pm. Call is 2–3 per week and every other weekend call with a 30‑minute response time.
Overview of Heart Hospital Sentara Norfolk General/Sentara Heart Hospital is a comprehensive Level 1 Trauma center in Norfolk, VA. The Heart Hospital Cardiac Surgery program has dedicated CVOR rooms staffed by a dedicated cardiac OR team that performs high volume, complex open‑heart CABG, valve, aortic, and structural cases (TAVR). The center also serves as the regional center for ECMO/MCS, heart transplant, and aortic dissection care.
Responsibilities The Surgical Technologist II ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment and assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and using critical thinking to anticipate the needs of the surgeon. The role involves maintaining patient safety and ensuring that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile. The surgical technologist assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes, and transferring patients to recovery areas. The technologist adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. Works closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures, while serving as a role model to new employees and other staff members. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and practice of aseptic and surgical techniques.
Licensure Requirements:
Surgical Technologist licensure in the state of practice.

Surgical Technologist Trade School Degree (required)
Certification/Licensure
Virginia Surgical Technologist License (required)
National Certification (NBSTSA or NCCT) (required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required)
Experience
3 years prior experience (required)
Cardiac/CVOR experience (preferred)
