Vertex Spring 2026 Co-op, Technical Operations, Process Analytical Technology (PAT) Join Vertex Pharmaceuticals as a co‑op in Technical Operations – Process Analytical Technology (PAT) to work on pharmaceutical continuous manufacturing processes.

About the Program This 6‑month, full‑time, paid co‑op is focused on developing advanced multivariate models from spectroscopic data of drug product intermediates. It is for students enrolled in undergraduate or advanced degree programs in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or related fields.

What You Will Be Doing

Design and execute experiments to formulate calibration blends using material‑sparing techniques and measure them spectroscopically.

Develop and evaluate multivariate predictive models (PCA, PLS, etc.) to assess potency of drug product intermediates.

Develop new and evaluate existing methods for generating simulated calibration spectra and assess their accuracy.

Support automated offline chemometric model assessments.

Report and present results to key stakeholders and leadership.

What You Will Need To Succeed

Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.

Basic computer and MS Office skills.

Knowledge of fundamentals of vibrational spectroscopies (IR, Raman, NIR).

Proficiency in complex data manipulation in Microsoft Excel.

Comfort handling and organizing large data sets.

Preferred: experience with analytical chemistry applied to small‑molecule pharmaceuticals.

Preferred: knowledge of oral solid‑dose pharmaceuticals manufacturing processes and formulations.

Preferred: experience with multivariate data analysis and model building (PCA, PLS, SIMCA).

Preferred: experience with software tools such as Unscrambler or PLS Toolbox.

Preferred: coding experience in MATLAB.

Motivated team player, eager to learn new skills.

Legal authorization to work in the United States; no sponsorship offered.

Must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2026.

Must be available to work full‑time (40 hrs per week) from January – June 2026.

Program Details

Compensation: $20.00 – $50.00 USD/hour.

Program dates: January – June 2026.
