Senior Director, Venture Investments – LivaNova
Join LivaNova as a Senior Director, Venture Investments and lead the investment process in innovative companies to create optionality for future platforms. Partner with business partners to identify high‑priority areas for external innovation, source early‑stage technologies, build business cases, and manage equity investments while balancing the interests of all stakeholders.
Position Summary The Sr. Director, Venture Investments will guide the entire investment lifecycle, from opportunity sourcing to portfolio management, ensuring alignment with LivaNova’s strategic priorities and governance processes.
General Responsibilities
Partner with business, strategy, and corporate development to refine venture strategy and define focus areas.
Build relationships with the external innovation ecosystem, including venture capital firms, incubators, accelerators, entrepreneurs, and universities across North America and Europe.
Identify and source attractive early‑stage technologies and companies in strategic areas of interest.
Lead the diligence process and develop the business case, including securing approvals through LivaNova’s governance process.
Determine creative deal structures to meet the needs of founders, investors, and LivaNova.
Negotiate term sheets and definitive agreements through to closing.
Manage portfolio companies and track progress against key milestones; may include board observer/board seat positions as appropriate.
Skills and Experience
Prior experience in healthcare investing in a venture capital firm or a corporate venture fund.
Direct clinical experience is preferred.
Track record of building business cases, closing investments, and managing investments to exit.
Solid financial acumen for financial analysis, valuation, and deal structuring.
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.
Well networked with prior exposure to the healthcare innovation ecosystem (venture capital firms, accelerators, incubators, universities).
Evidence of analytical and critical thinking during due diligence.
Education
B.S. degree in a business or science‑related field (required).
One or more advanced scientific degrees (MD or Ph.D.) is preferred.
Travel Requirements
Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time.
Pay Transparency
Annual base salary estimate: $200,000 – $270,000, plus discretionary annual bonus. Pay ranges may vary by location.
