RK&K is seeking a skilled Senior Bridge Project Engineer in our Raleigh office to lead the design of bridge projects and the preparation of contract documents. This role requires expertise in applying AASHTO codes and NCDOT manuals, conducting quality control reviews of calculations and drawings, and collaborating with CADD operators.
As a Senior Bridge Project Engineer, you will be responsible for project research, drawing development, data entry, engineering computations, analysis, quantity take-offs, inspections, and preparing submittals to regulatory agencies.
Essential Functions
Coordinate and lead structural design development and assist in providing structural direction to projects
Perform structural analyses utilizing industry-standard software tools such as Microstation, Leap Bridge Concrete, AASHTOWare BrR, Open Bridge Designer, or similar programs.
Provide senior level structural expertise on all project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contract documents for construction followed by construction administration with respect to the structural aspects of the project.
Assume responsibility of completeness and accuracy of design work
Assess efficiency of contract document preparation and offer suggestions for improvement and implementation
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage bridge projects from inception through completion
Coordinate with contractors and regulatory agencies to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
Maintain rigorous standards of quality and compliance with relevant codes and standards throughout the design and construction process
Conduct thorough reviews of design calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and safety
Cultivate strong relationships with clients by understanding their needs, communicating project progress effectively, and providing innovative solutions to address their challenges and requirements
Mentor junior staff as needed
Assist with marketing and proposal efforts as needed
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Minimum Seven (7) years of bridge design experience
P.E. (professional engineering) License
Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Leap Bridge Concrete, AASHTOWare BrR, Microstation, and various other structural programs
Strong understanding of industry codes and standards related to bridge design and construction (e.g. AASHTO, ACI, ASCE)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with clients and stakeholders.
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Valid driver's license and favorable driving record
Preferred Skills and Experience
Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
NCDOT structures/bridge experience
SCDOT Seismic Design
