Position Overview As the QinetiQ US Engineering Operations Director, reporting to the Senior Director of QinetiQ's Innovation & Engineering Group (IEG) within the Solutions Business Unit, you will be responsible for the engagement of our engineering talent with program managers, manufacturing and quality leaders, and Massachusetts based portfolio Vice President.
Your role is crucial in fostering and institutionalizing a culture of governance, collaboration, and innovation with internal and external stakeholders. As the Engineering Operations Manager, you will plan, coordinate, and oversee the technical operations of the engineering organization, managing staff, budgets, and maintenance of programs to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities The Engineering Operations Director will work with leadership to ensure the right engineering talent is available to support our program/project managers. They will influence QinetiQ's technology strategy, and drive continuous improvement, ensuring that the IEG is delivering valuable work products now and is well positioned for future growth.
Key responsibilities include:
Staff Management:
Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate engineering staff; coordinate daily activities and assign tasks to ensure proper workflow and cross‑training.
Budgeting & Financial Oversight:
Develop, manage, and monitor operational and capital budgets; forecast costs and analyze operational performance to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
Project Management:
Coordinate and manage engineering projects from planning through completion, including developing project plans, managing timelines, and mitigating risks.
Strategic Planning:
Contribute to the development and implementation of the annual business plan, aligning engineering activities with the company's strategic objectives.
Technical Support & Improvement:
Provide technical expertise to resolve issues, recommend improvements to systems and processes, and implement new technologies.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering discipline
At least 5 years of experience in engineering management, preferably in the aerospace and/or maritime industries
Proficiency in understanding technical operations, facilities, and maintenance programs
Strong ability to manage projects, develop plans, allocate resources, and oversee execution to meet deadlines
Ability to lead and motivate teams, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and influence others to achieve agreements
Strong analytical abilities for problem‑solving, identifying operational trends, and implementing corrective actions
Experience with budgeting, cost forecasting, utilization, and financial analysis to manage expenses
Must be able to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
10 years' demonstrated experience as a Chief Engineer
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering complex DOD systems of systems to the military including:

Low Rate Initial Production
Production
Sustainment
Active DOD Secret or higher level Security Clearance
Pay Transparency The salary range for this role is $175,000.00- $220,000.00. The range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
