ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Division of Southcoast Region Construction Section is recruiting for an Engineering Associate in Juneau.

What you will be doing: This position serves as a Southcoast Region Construction Division Project Engineer. As the Department’s designated representative for construction contract administration, the incumbent will be responsible for the inspection, acceptance and payment of work performed on one or more ongoing construction projects of average to above average complexity, projects with high potential for public impacts, and projects with sensitive stakeholder commitments.

The working environment you can expect: This position is located in Juneau and reports to the DOT PF Southcoast Region 7‑mile office. Southeast Alaska presents unique habitats, steep‑sided mountains, glaciers, marine waters, and extreme weather. Projects range from local streets and highway projects to marine terminal work and regional airport improvements. The role requires the ability to read and interpret design plans and specifications and develop engineering solutions and documentation on construction sites.

Valid Driver’s License:

Required.

Travel:

Requires occasional travel to project sites within the coastal region of Alaska; may include flying to remote communities in small aircraft; includes site inspections that may occur in adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications: Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, land surveying or architecture, of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere. ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering, architecture, land surveying or a closely related curriculum may substitute for the non‑specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an ABET‑accredited institution may substitute for four years of the non‑specific required experience.
