A-Team Solutions is seeking a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist for a contract position at the VA San Diego HealthCare System. The contract lasts 1 year with the possibility of up to 4 additional years. Shifts are 10 hours, primarily nights and weekends, with overtime possible.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The RTP shall administer and monitor therapeutic medical gases, including oxygen, nitric oxide, and Heliox, using appropriate devices.

The RTP shall perform airway humidification with various devices, including aerosols and high‑flow systems, and administer aerosolized medications such as bronchodilators, mucolytics, and antibiotics.

The RTP shall perform lung inflation strategies, including the use of MetaNeb and incentive spirometry. Limited bedside pulmonary function testing (Vital Capacity, Negative Inspiratory Force, Minute Ventilation) may be performed.

The RTP shall perform secretion clearance using high‑frequency oscillation and cough‑assist devices.

The RTP shall perform safe endotracheal, nasotracheal, and orotracheal suctioning with both open and closed systems.

The RTP shall provide chest physiotherapy and postural drainage, both manually and mechanically.

The RTP shall set up and monitor non‑invasive ventilation devices, including CPAP, APAP, and BIPAP, and assist with intubation and extubation per approved policies.

The RTP shall set up, use, monitor, and troubleshoot acute‑care and transport ventilators, implementing various ventilation modes (volume, pressure, spontaneous).

The RTP shall respond to Code Blues and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, assist with intubation, extubation, and airway securement, and respond to Rapid Response Calls with patient assessment and recommendations.

The RTP shall complete bronchoscopy set‑up, assistance, and pre‑cleaning.

The RTP shall obtain sputum specimens for laboratory analysis.

The RTP shall perform arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.

The RTP shall complete home‑oxygen patient assessments and assist the home‑oxygen clinic as requested.

The RTP shall provide patient and/or family education as indicated.

The RTP shall recognize the need for medical intervention if patient safety is at risk.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Minimum Experience: 1 year, including critical care experience if working in Pulmonary.

Required Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).

State Licensure: Respiratory Care Board of California.

BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association).
