Position Overview Full‑time position as a Psychiatrist in the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of

New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) . The role is based on Rikers Island and serves the NYC jail system. Salary range is

$236,900–$247,200

annually.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Medical Director of Mental Health or a supervising Psychiatrist, the Psychiatrist provides high‑quality, team‑based psychiatric care—including psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic interventions—to individuals incarcerated in the New York City jail system. The psychiatric service strives to provide safe, holistic, and evidence‑based interventions for a diverse range of mental health issues.

Provides psychiatric care, including admission evaluations, follow‑ups and urgent and emergent consultations for individuals enrolled in the mental health service.

Provides consultation to non‑prescribing mental health staff and medical staff about diagnosis, treatment and/or the need for psychiatric medication.

Participates in team meetings with the treatment staff daily (if on a mental observation unit) or weekly (if in a clinic).

Regularly participates in the creation of individual treatment plans and reviews existing plans.

Evaluates patients for the need for higher level of care, including hospitalizations, and maintains contact to ensure continuity of care.

Documents all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise, and clear manner.

Provides clinical supervision as needed for psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Engages in weekly clinical supervision with Psychiatric leadership.

Provides clinical supervision for psychiatric volunteers (resident or fellow) as needed, including direct supervision and documentation of evaluation and feedback.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Psychiatrist or Mental Health Manager for the facility, the Medical Director, or the Chief of Service for Psychiatry.

Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 4 pm‑12 am.

Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine degree.

New York State license to practice Medicine, in good standing.

Completion of a 4‑year US‑accredited psychiatric residency program.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry by the ABPN.

At least 2 years’ experience caring for individuals with serious mental illness in an institutional setting.
