Our client, a leading heavy civil and paving contractor, is expanding and seeking a skilled Project Manager/Estimator to join their team in New Britain, CT. Their work spans roadway construction, bridge rehabilitation, asphalt paving, and major infrastructure improvements throughout the region. This role offers the opportunity to influence projects from initial estimate through execution, combining field-focused project management with preconstruction leadership to help shape Connecticut’s transportation infrastructure.

Position Summary: As a Project Manager/Estimator, you’ll support both the planning and delivery of heavy highway, DOT, and paving projects. You’ll lead competitive estimates, collaborate on bid strategy, and manage projects through construction to ensure successful execution. This is an ideal role for a versatile construction professional who values autonomy, precision, and taking ownership of projects from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate cost estimates for heavy civil, DOT, and paving projects
Perform detailed takeoffs using HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or similar software
Review drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure complete and compliant bids
Coordinate subcontractor and supplier pricing and evaluate proposals
Develop detailed bid strategies in collaboration with operations and leadership
Project Management
Oversee daily project operations to maintain budget, schedule, and quality
Coordinate directly with field teams, subcontractors, and inspectors
Monitor project cost control and forecasting
Support schedule development, production planning, and resource allocation
Lead project meetings and maintain strong communication with clients and stakeholders
Ensure compliance with CT DOT standards, project documentation, and safety expectations
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
Minimum 3 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with exposure to both estimating and project management
Strong knowledge of Connecticut DOT standards and specifications
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HCSS, and Bid2Win
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Base salary: $105,000–$115,000 + 10% bonus
