What’s It Like to Work at Codex?

Early-stage startup with a focus on work-life balance and long-term thinking

We’re an early-stage startup. While the business needs mean we can’t promise you a regular 40-hour workweek, we try our best to respect weekends, vacations, and life outside of work. We believe that Codex should serve its customers and employees long term - and that begins with ensuring employee burnout isn’t a part of our employee life.

Improving patient health outcomes is a difficult, long-term aspiration. This means we have to create a workplace that values long-term thinking, with near‑term results that don’t sacrifice employees’ wellbeing.

Remote-first company, with regular in-person events for Bay Area employees

We recognize that the ability to work remotely is an employee benefit that significantly influences knowledge‑workers lifestyles. It can define our quality of life.

We’re a remote‑first company, with most people living in the San Fransisco Bay Area. We make an effort for San Fransisco employees to regularly meet in person by hosting company Happy Hour events, coordinated co‑working days, and more.

While the remote work environment creates its own set of challenges (necessitating disciplined communication, building a shared context, maintaining a sense of connectedness, etc.), we see these as opportunities. We understand that traditional, in‑office work environments were not the most inclusive spaces. Thus, we believe that hybrid remote work helps promote a diversified workforce with benefits and opportunities that far outweigh its challenges.

Transparent, cross-collaborative, and open company culture

Transparency - Weekly All‑Hands with an “ask anything” opportunity

Cross‑collaboration - Biweekly Engineering standups

Company Off‑sites

Recognition by company‑wide demos of new engineering/product features

Open Community - calendars are public so anyone can join almost any meeting or discussion

Bottom Up engineering (and product and design) led organization - come to us with your ideas!

High impact-to-engineer ratio, open communication, and support for personal growth

We’re a small team of collaborative individuals with a high impact-to-engineer ratio. Every individual - independent of job title - can make a large impact on any part of the business and materially improve patient health. We dream big and we want to help each other succeed and reach our career goals. We do this through encouraging open communication, empathetic feedback, sharing ideas, listening to each other’s perspectives, being available for bespoke 1:1s, and having an overall willingness to work together toward a shared learning environment.

We get to work with modern, cutting‑edge technologies and systems aimed at revolutionizing the healthcare industry. We also believe that technologies must be used to ensure the privacy and data security of patients.

Lastly, we care more about productive work than how you work; giving you the flexibility to discover what’s most productive for you.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
