Position Summary Provide high-quality, cost-effective care and treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses, and provide occupational medicine services.

Oversight assistance for the Department’s Advanced Practice Practitioners. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The physician will deliver initial and episodic care to patients for work-related injuries and/or illnesses and assist with getting them back to work as quickly and safely as possible.

The physician will perform physicals, screenings, etc, related to the patient's job functions.

The physician may act as a consultant to identify, assess, and prevent workplace health hazards.

The physician will serve as a certified Medical Review Officer for oversight of drug and alcohol programs, including for our DOT clients (if not certified upon hire, must obtain certification within three months of start date)

Care will be delivered while following standards and protocols set by the Medical Director.

The physician will function as an integral member of the clinical team in delivering exceptional patient care in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, while maintaining patient flow and working with administrative staff.

The physician will provide oversight to our Advanced Practice Practitioners, including co-signing notes, assisting them with urgent or complex clinical questions or issues, and working closely with them to ensure patients are receiving timely, evidence-based care.

The physician will be up-to-date on federal and state regulations for workforce health and safety, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), to provide the best treatment plans and perform regulatory examinations.

All other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Medical School and residency program

Board certified/board eligible in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or equivalent field

CT state licensure with both DEA and DPH prescribing privileges.

Skilled in traditional disciplines of patient assessment and management.

Must obtain medical privileges at Middlesex Hospital in the Department of Medicine, section of Occupational Medicine. Complies fully with MH Medical staff bylaws for maintenance of MH privileges.

Certification on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (“DOT examiner”) (if not currently certified, must be certified prior to start date)

Certified Medical Review Officer (if not currently certified, must become certified within 3 months of start date)

Preferred Qualifications: 2-3 years of experience as a practicing physician in an Occupational Medicine, Urgent Care, or Emergency Department setting.

Board Certification in Occupational Medicine

BLS certification
