Phlebotomist - Springfield
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and recommending improvements for workflow. The position requires the collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures, with a focus on patient care and accurate processing.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate.
- Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Understand physicians' orders thoroughly.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples at the required temperature.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in blood draw and specimen collection.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Experience in phlebotomy and venipuncture.
- Ability to handle hard stick patients, particularly transplant and cancer patients.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1-4 years of experience in a related field.
Work Environment
The work environment is a large Patient Service Center with a team of 5 people. You will be responsible for seeing 150-160 patients a day. Working hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with rotation for Saturday work from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Employees will receive a half-day during the week to balance the 40-hour workweek.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Springfield, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
