Senior Civil Engineer – Ports & Maritime (Texas) Burns & McDonnell invites experienced senior civil engineers to lead design, management, and client engagement for critical ports and maritime infrastructure across Texas.

Responsibilities

Deliver a range of heavy civil projects, from port utility and roadway infrastructure to stormwater management design, continuously improving client service and portfolio growth.

Manage projects requiring diverse services, leveraging the firm’s global network of engineers, scientists, and technologists to support any project task.

Lead teams through challenging designs and schedules, mentoring staff and maintaining a pride in high‑quality work.

Discover and implement innovative solutions for projects and processes, collaborating with in‑house construction teams on the front lines.

Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders, translating complex concepts and inspiring enthusiasm for vital community work.

Help clients understand schedule and budget impacts on design decisions, providing honest and valuable input.

Ensure accountability, flexibility, and organization in project execution; detail orientation remains critical.

Collaborate with Burns & McDonnell marketing and global practice staff to identify and analyze strategically aligned business development opportunities.

Identify target clients and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, contractors, and customers to develop business.

Participate in regional trade associations and professional organizations.

Serve as a senior civil engineer for a wide variety of waterfront projects.

Direct and coordinate activities of multiple disciplines on projects, engaging staff and resources from several global practices.

Assist in managing project and program resources and sub‑consultants.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related ABET‑accredited program with 7+ years of civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred or required.

Master’s degree in civil engineering with 6+ years of experience is acceptable; EPC project experience preferred.

General business and financial calculation knowledge.

Knowledge of civil engineering design guides.

Proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation, Microsoft Office tools, and Microsoft Project.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures; strong computer skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM tools, Civil 3D, PLS, RISA, etc.).

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work. Ability to resolve issues in a team environment.

Critical thinking, methodical problem‑solving, and quantitative analysis skills.

Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, and organization.

Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

Ability to travel as required.

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Job remains open for a minimum of 72 hours and will continue to be posted until filled.
