What to Expect
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer - BIW position, reporting to the Manager - Manufacturing Engineering, BIW, is located at our Fremont Factory. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead, support, and manage introductions of new manufacturing equipment and processes as well as continuous improvement of existing equipment & processes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual must work with cross‑functional teams such as Design, NPI, Quality, Production, Purchasing, Industrial Engineering, External Line Builders, and other Departments to drive the implementation of new projects, production lines, process, and product changes. This role requires proven engineering aptitude and problem‑solving skills with experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do
Project Management: Independently Manage CapEx project lifecycle for 'medium to large' sized projects: Justification, specification / option analysis, approval, spending & budget, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, validation, and transfer of ownership
Equipment Design: Lead equipment design, development & implementation to achieve project and production goals and KPI's. Provide detailed assessments and conduct Design For Manufacturability (DFM) reviews of Product, Process and Tooling
Factory Acceptance: Attend Factory Acceptance Testing at supplier location(s) to ensure equipment conformance and shipping & installation readiness
Process design: Define build sequence, material flow, process steps, cycle time, key quality & safety points. Design 'associate to machine' interface and workspace, including ergonomics, lighting, and general layout
Process Documentation: Create & provide Process sheets, Work instructions, Maintenance instructions, Manufacturing BOM, and other documentation required to train production & maintenance, and effectively transfer ownership after SOP
Spare Parts: Create spare part lists for new equipment & define critical spares. Provide maintenance training / instruction and documentation. Ensure all new components are setup, ordered, and in stock to effectively transfer ownership after SOP
Innovation: Study technologies to expert-level of understanding, utilizing internal & external technical resources to fully understand, teach and lead new / newly implemented technologies
Mentoring & Training: Provide mentoring and guidance to lesser‑experienced engineers and contribute to their professional development. Train production and maintenance groups on newly implemented equipment, components, and technology
Support: Support / assist Maintenance in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures. Provide technical training to maintenance, production, and other internal resource groups
Hands‑On: Working in a hands‑on capacity in a production environment to fully understand scope, impact, and associated challenges. Provide technical support to production, maintenance, quality, and other groups as required
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Clear understanding of machine safeguarding & equipment safety compliance
5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and optimizing complex automated manufacturing equipment & processes
Work independently with concepts and documentation from prototype to sustaining activities
Familiarity with Robot & PLC technologies and platforms, their capabilities, and limitations
Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required
Work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
Proficiency with 3D and 2D CAD platform

Expected Compensation $80,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
