About This Role Kansas State University, the nation’s first land‑grant university, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a successful, driven, and nationally/internationally recognized leader to join a highly successful College of Veterinary Medicine, fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), located in a public R1 land‑grant university.
The successful candidate must have the experience and vision to inspire, guide, and facilitate the College’s faculty and staff in advancing high‑quality teaching, research, service, and engagement while providing leadership that assures the integrity, excellence, relevance, and success of the College’s programs.
The Dean reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President and is a member of the Academic Leadership Council and Deans Council.
This position is ideal for a cutting‑edge, learner‑centric leader with a proven history of successful growth initiatives, strong partnership and collaboration skills, strategic vision, and results‑focused leadership.
Key expectations include growing the College’s excellence in teaching, research, service, and engagement; promoting a collaborative leadership approach; and cultivating internal and external partnerships to advance the University’s Next‑Gen K‑State Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities
Lead all academic programs and curricular efforts in the College in alignment with AVMA Council on Education (COE) standards.
Promote high‑quality student experiences; support effective academic advising and mentoring; build enduring excellence in research and engagement programs serving the state, nation, and world.
Recruit and retain high‑caliber learners, faculty, and staff; promote a welcoming environment.
Collaborate with learners, faculty, staff, department heads, deans, administrators, and the broader community on interdisciplinary initiatives.
Provide strategic leadership for advancing the College’s strategic plan with the University’s vision to become a Next‑Generation Land‑Grant University.
Lead fundraising efforts on behalf of the College with a high degree of personal involvement, including traveling to alumni events, hosting gameday stadium suites, and more.
Strengthen strategic relationships and engagement with community stakeholders, alumni, legislators, industry, and benefactors across the state and beyond.
Provide leadership and oversight for the service centers housed in the College – the Veterinary Health Center and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience as a senior academic or administrative leader in a comparable environment.
Visionary leadership capable of inspiring faculty, staff, and students.
Proven record of growth initiatives, strategic planning, and results‑focused leadership.
Strong partnership and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.
