Responsibilities
Develop and execute an effective training program.
Develop and train student‑athletes to participate in competitive swimming.
Monitor, motivate, supervise, and mentor student‑athletes.
Instruct/guide student‑athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for individual and team success.
Instruct and guide student‑athletes to foster moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline, and self‑confidence.
Manage game‑day strategies and logistics.
Ensure the safety and well‑being of student‑athletes.
Work cooperatively and timely with the School Athletic Office and CPS District Athletics Department for required information.
Check the academic eligibility status of prospective student‑athletes.
Follow District Athletic Department Policy as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria.
Meet all requirements set by the State Board of Education, OHSAA, and ODE for Coaches Tool Chest training and Pupil Activity Permit.
Implement all applicable administrative policies from the Board of Education, Superintendent, Principals, Conference Leagues, and OHSAA.
Schedule and complete a full season of contests, including State tournament games.
Begin pre‑season practice on the first permitted day.
Provide all applicable in‑season and out‑of‑season training rules in writing before the season starts.
Follow due‑process procedures for violations.
Model expected behavior—timeliness, positivity, respect, constructive criticism, and discipline.
Set a positive example in language, appearance, and conduct.
Dress appropriately at all practices and games.
Accept and act on constructive criticism to improve coaching performance.
Participate in clinics and improvement programs.
Participate in school events (e.g., Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Booster Meetings).
Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport with sound judgment.
Be competent in swimming techniques to elicit positive athlete response.
Adapt properly to changing game situations.
Be knowledgeable and constantly improve coaching knowledge.
Innovate new coaching techniques and ideas.
Ensure the team is well prepared for opponents.
Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
Fundraising experience.
Passion and dedication to inspire student‑athletes.
Ability to serve as a positive role model.
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with the sport.
Training / Certification
Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college.
Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school or college level is required.
Provide satisfactory results on a County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check.
Possess an Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
Provide proof of completion of Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification.
