Cleveland-Cliffs is looking for an IT Senior Network Security Engineer. This position will work closely with a team of experienced network and network security engineers and will be located at the Cleveland-Cliffs headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. The Senior Network Security Engineer will provide a high level of technical and subject‑matter leadership and is a recognized expert in the company’s Network Engineering/Architecture and Network Security sector. The role requires working with multiple network security and firewall technologies including Palo Alto and Cisco. The ideal candidate has technical depth, a customer‑first mentality, and the motivation to own and resolve customer issues in a dynamic, fast‑growing learning environment.
Summary of Responsibilities
Provide a high level of technical and subject‑matter leadership and work closely with junior to mid‑level engineers.
Work with multiple network security and firewall technologies including Palo Alto, Cisco, Aruba, and Dragos.
Maintain technical oversight and project management duties for the network architecture at the Cleveland Works facility.
Lead the design, architecture, and support for corporate network security infrastructure: firewalls (Cisco FMC and Cisco FTD, Palo Alto NGFW), intrusion prevention systems (Cisco FTD, Palo Alto), network access control (Cisco ISE, Aruba ClearPass), and security monitoring (OpenText Network Node Manager, LogicMonitor, PRTG).
Provide technical leadership to Cleveland Cliffs subsidiary companies including FTP and CCTS.
Respond to incidents, tasks, and requests in a timely manner to meet service‑level agreements.
Maintain and implement network security policies across the corporate firewall footprint, including on‑prem and cloud environments.
Maintain corporate ACL standards and assist with changes and audits throughout the network.
Troubleshoot connectivity through firewall log analysis and network traces.
Maintain and establish VPN connections for remote users and partner companies.
Develop network and related security documentation, including diagrams and work instructions.
Participate in an on‑call rotation for after‑hours emergency support.
Provide project management and technical leadership at the Cleveland Works facility.
Other duties as assigned.
10% domestic travel to other Cliffs locations (MI, IN, MN, IL, PA) and international travel to subsidiaries in Canada.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related IT/engineering field and 6 years of experience as a Network Engineer or related.
6 years of experience with IT network and network security architecture, design, and support; project management; technical mentorship; network security design for firewalls and intrusion detection systems; implementation of secure and reliable networks and segmentation in datacenter and cloud environments supporting mission‑critical, customer‑facing applications and services.
Routing and switching expertise (BGP, OSPF, VPC, VLAN traffic engineering, Multicast).
Experience with multiple security technologies including proxy, micro‑segmentation, network security architecture; leading technical projects from architecture to implementation; proxy solutions such as Bluecoat and zScaler; and WPAD and proxy PAC files.
Experience with DNS, authentication systems (RADIUS, TACACS+, SSO, LDAP+), Microsoft Active Directory, and public key infrastructure, SSL, digital certificates.
Master’s degree in Computer Science or related IT/engineering field (preferred).
Willingness to travel 10% of the time to other Cliffs locations (MI, IN, MN, IL, PA) and to subsidiaries in Canada.
The annual salary range for this position is $153,130–$160,000.
