Data Center Operating Engineer
Shift:
Thursday - Saturday, every other Wednesday ON 6am-6pm
What This Job Involves The Data Center Operating Engineer is responsible for delivery of best practice systems and problem resolution on all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, cooling systems, etc.).
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems to maintain 100% uptime, including fire/life safety, HVAC, chillers, CRAC, CRAH, plumbing, controls, electrical, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems.
Monitor operations, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, ventilating and water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation.
Analyze system operations, determine causes of problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action as required.
Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain a clean, safe workplace.
Understand the data center site to manage incidents and events that risk critical systems.
Manage work orders, including CMMS, vendor management, and customer-facing tickets.
Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures.
Perform additional job duties as required.
Required Experience and Technical Skills
2+ years experience working in a data center or critical facility.
Experience with building systems, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgears.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, and CMMS.
Preferred Skills
Corrigo experience.
Universal EPA 608 certification.
Training in NFPA 70E.
Physical Work Abilities and Requirements This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead, including:
Walking large, campus-like settings.
Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment.
Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights.
Ability to climb a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit.
Must be able to work different schedules.
Must be able to work holidays.
Must be able to respond to site emergencies.
