What you will be doing

Professionally maintain all heavy-duty and light duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles being operated in the area.

Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods. Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.

Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmission, drivetrain, suspension, engine and emission systems, along with fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems including air and electrical for light and heavy‑duty equipment.

The working environment you can expect This position is in the Juneau shop located at 6860 Glacier Highway. Travel in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible. Travel consists of day trips and overnight stays.

Who we are looking for

Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Flexibility: Openness to change and new information; rapid adaptation to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.

Vehicle Maintenance: Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Self‑Management: Sets realistic goals, displays initiative and commitment, works with minimal supervision, and demonstrates responsible behavior.

A copy of your Class A CDL, front and back (if applicable).

Commercial Driver’s License Required This position requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). A Class A Alaska CDL is required. Conditional hire approval can be given to applicants who do not yet possess a Class A CDL, provided they obtain it within 120 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect.

Department of Transportation & Public Facilities Drug and Alcohol Policy Selected candidates must comply with the DOT-PF drug and alcohol policy. Applicants cannot start work until the required pre‑employment drug test has been passed and confirmed through the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

Tool Allowance Employees must provide their own hand tools. A monthly tool allowance will be paid, determined by position, and reviewed after hire.
