Base pay range $112,900.00/yr - $169,500.00/yr

As a Decision Scientist, you will play a crucial role in guiding business decisions by discovering and sharing insights that ensure our coffeehouses have the staffing and schedules needed to provide a great experience for our customers. A key focus will be on embedding analytics into labor, deployment, throughput, capacity, and service time to build and promote a data‑driven culture throughout the organization. You will model and act in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

Responsibilities Data Engineering & Quality

Extract and transform large‑scale, complex data from Databricks, SQL Server, and legacy systems into analytically ready structures.

Perform data quality checks, maintain documentation, and adhere to coding standards and version control.

Design relational and dimensional data processes to support business measurement and decision‑making.

Analytics & Modeling

Apply statistical and predictive techniques (regression, clustering, anomaly detection) using SQL, Python, or R.

Profile data and justify methodology choices to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Visualization & Storytelling

Build dashboards and visualizations using Tableau or Power BI to influence strategic and operational decisions.

Apply human‑centered design principles to deliverables (dashboards, presentations, analyses) for end‑users.

Business Integration

Collect and interpret requirements; connect analysis to business application.

Communicate implications and recommendations clearly, influencing operational and strategic decisions.

Collaboration & Evangelism

Partner across coffeehouse excellence, finance, and technology teams.

Evangelize decision science capabilities and foster a data‑driven culture.

Planning & Prioritization

Align work with team and enterprise priorities; proactively manage deadlines and risks.

Desired qualifications

Education: BA/BS with preferred concentration discipline in Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, Econ, Psychology, Quantitative Social Science or similar.

Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.

Proficiency with SQL and Python; familiarity with both preferred.

Working knowledge of statistics (descriptive, regression, etc.).

Business experience with several data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

Labor or Workforce Analytics preferred.

Minimum 1 year’s experience in specific field or utilizing designated skills.
