We're seeking an HR Generalist to provide full-time coverage during our HR Generalists maternity leave. This role will handle day-to-day HR operations, employee inquiries, and ensure continuity of HR services across the organization. You'll work independently on routine HR matters while maintaining strong communication with leadership and the broader team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits, payroll, leave of absence, policies, and personnel matters
Process routine HR transactions (new hires, terminations, role changes, payroll updates, benefits enrollment)
Maintain employee records and ensure HRIS accuracy and compliance
Draft and distribute HR communications (policy updates, benefits information, compliance notices)
Assist with recruitment coordination—posting openings, screening applications, scheduling interviews
Ensure compliance with California labor laws and company policies in all employee matters
Prepare or review compensation studies and market data; assist with salary benchmarking
Coordinate benefits administration, open enrollment, and employee onboarding
Handle routine employee relations matters; escalate complex issues to leadership as needed
Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive personnel information
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of HR generalist or HR coordinator experience
Deep knowledge of California employment law (wage/hour, leave laws, discrimination, harassment prevention)
Strong organizational and communication skills
Proficiency with Paylocity systems and Microsoft Office
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Discretion, integrity, and professional judgment
Fully on-site in Richmond (100% in-person)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) or pursuing certification
Experience with compensation analysis and market benchmarking
Background in nonprofit or education sectors
Familiarity with payroll systems and benefits administration platforms
Experience with recruitment/ATS systems
Experience handling FMLA, parental leave, and disability accommodations
SCHEDULE & LOCATION
Full-time, on-site in Richmond, CA
Standard business hours; occasional flexibility for HR needs
75k salary/year
$37.50 hourly rate
