The Department of Customer Services (CSD), Division of Motor Vehicles, is looking to fill seven (7) Driver License Examiner I positions located at various driver licensing centers on the island of O’ahu. This position is responsible for administering written and visual acuity tests and conducting road performance tests to determine applicant eligibility for motor vehicle driver license categories 1 through 3.
Responsibilities As a Driver License Examiner I, your duties and responsibilities will include:
Administering written and oral examinations and conducting road performance tests to determine applicants' eligibility for various operators licenses.
Issuing driver licenses and instructions permits.
Scoring administered tests.
Applying knowledge of traffic laws and ordinances.
Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Education Requirement Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Experience Requirement Two (2) years of supervisory, driver training instructional, regulatory or related experience, including or supplemented by one (1) year of frequent public contact which involved explaining rules and regulations to others in determining their eligibility or non‑eligibility for licenses, benefits or similar matters.
License Requirement Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license (Type 3), at the time of application.
Verification Requirement – Application Please attach a copy of your valid driver’s license to your application; or mail a photocopy of your driver’s license by the closing date of the recruitment to the following address: Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI 96813. Copies will not be returned. All documents must be legible in order to be given credit.
Special Requirement Candidates must possess a good driving record, as evidenced by a certified traffic abstract with no moving violations within the past three (3) years, in order to be appointed to positions in this class; and must possess an appropriate valid driver’s license for at least three (3) years immediately preceding appointment.
Verification Requirement – Interview At the time of interview, you must provide a current certified traffic abstract issued by the District Courts.
Education and Experience Evaluation In addition to meeting the above minimum qualifications, your application will be further evaluated. Your score will be based on the quality and quantity of your education, experience and/or other related job requirements and competencies applicable to the position. Failure to provide sufficient information may result in your application being rejected or you receiving a lower score.
