Position: API Architect

Location: Jersey City, NJ / Dallas, TX / Tampa, FL - hybrid onsite

Rate: $50/hr

Base pay range: $50.00/hr - $50.00/hr

Responsibilities and Qualifications API Architect who has API experience that has a good understanding of protobuf formats, low latency responses (so someone who has worked with large volumes of data or data streaming), tuning, performance. Experience with BI will be a plus.

Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience in API design, development, and management, particularly with Apigee Edge, Apigee Hybrid, and Apigee X platforms.

Proven expertise in migrating on‑prem Apigee workloads to AWS‑native API solutions (e.g., Amazon API Gateway, ALB/Lambda integrations, AWS CloudFront, or App Mesh‑based APIs).

Deep understanding of API security models (OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, WAF, throttling, rate limiting, API keys, etc.).

Proficiency in API proxy design, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, and REST/GraphQL architecture principles.

Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines for API lifecycle management using GitLab, Jenkins, CodePipeline.

Strong working knowledge of AWS services including API Gateway, Lambda, CloudFront, WAF, Cognito, ECS/Fargate, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, and infrastructure‑as‑code (CloudFormation/Terraform).

Expertise in containerized API deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS) and service mesh frameworks.

Experience integrating legacy or hybrid API backends (SOAP, IBM MQ, Mulesoft, or mainframe APIs) into AWS‑native architectures.

Familiarity with AWS Bedrock AI‑based API enhancement is a plus (e.g., intelligent API documentation or query translation).

Good understanding of API observability tools such as CloudWatch, X‑Ray, Splunk, or Datadog for monitoring and analytics.

Minimum 12 years of professional experience with strong API management and Apigee‑to‑AWS migration experience.

Lead end‑to‑end API modernization and migration initiatives from on‑prem Apigee to AWS services.

Develop and validate API migration blueprints, covering discovery, design, transformation, and deployment stages.

Define and implement API governance models, reusable frameworks, and developer onboarding strategies.

Drive API security compliance and data protection alignment (e.g., PIIN, YDF, PCI) in AWS environments.

Conduct technical workshops and client discussions to assess current API ecosystems and define target‑state architectures.

Collaborate with cloud architects, DevOps, and application teams to ensure consistent implementation of the migration roadmap.

Establish API versioning, documentation standards, and centralized cataloging (via API Gateway or AWS Service Catalog).

Provide strategic guidance on cost optimization, scalability, and performance tuning for migrated APIs.

Stay current on API management trends (GraphQL, async APIs, gRPC, event‑driven APIs) and integrate best practices into client roadmaps.

Experience in estimating API migration efforts, preparing proposals, and leading proof‑of‑concept (PoC) implementations.

AWS and Apigee certifications are highly preferred.

Proven record of leadership, client interaction, and solution delivery within defined timelines.
