Perfusionist
The Perfusionist is responsible for operating extracorporeal circulation equipment during procedures requiring cardiopulmonary support. In collaboration with the physician, the Perfusionist selects appropriate equipment and techniques, manages physiologic parameters, and ensures safe support of the patient’s circulatory and respiratory functions.
This role may also include administrative management, supply oversight, equipment maintenance, staff development, quality assurance, and policy/procedure implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Operate extracorporeal circulation and cardiopulmonary support systems Perform ECMO, ventricular assist support, counterpulsation, hemodilution, and myocardial preservation Conduct blood conservation, autotransfusion, blood gas/blood chemistry monitoring Administer medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via extracorporeal circuit Set up and monitor balloon pumps and long-term support equipment Insert IV and intra-arterial catheters as indicated Assist supervising physician with consult information gathering (no dictation) Maintain cardiac perfusion equipment; ensure inventory and upkeep Assist with scheduled cardiovascular cases and be available for standby/call Provide age-appropriate patient interaction and uphold cultural sensitivity Share knowledge with staff formally and informally Comply with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines Required Education & Experience
High school diploma + completion of an accredited Clinical Perfusionist Training Program Previous perfusionist experience preferred (not required) Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire 45 CEUs required every 3 years Certification/Licensure (Required Upon Hire)
American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion – Certified or Board Eligible Base Pay Range
$163.15/hr - $163.15/hr Seniority Level
