Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, the IT Project Manager will be a member of the Stony Brook Medicine IT PMO Team and will report to the Assistant Director, IT Program Management. This individual will work in a fast‑paced environment as part of multi‑disciplinary project teams implementing IT solutions within the Stony Brook Medicine Health System.
Developes the project charter, scope, work plan, work breakdown structure, and schedule using a designated project management tool for project team usage. Project plans include sufficient task level detail to capture known dependencies and major milestones.
Responsible for management of all projects assigned.
Duties
Utilize effective project and time‑management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ensure all projects are consistent with overall customer objectives and strategic plans.
Manage the day‑to‑day activities of cross‑functional project teams and ensure adherence to the project plan.
Deploy best‑practice approach defined by the IT PMO team.
Responsible for creating and managing the Project Charter and Scope document.
Initiate change management for change requests that increase the agreed scope, timeline, and/or budget of the project.
Work to control change, adjust the budget, timeline, and project scope to accommodate approved changes.
Produce timely, detailed summaries and high‑level reports.
Provide timely and accurate project status, sharing transparencies for issues, risks, and current project state.
Identify and mitigate project risk, keeping issues visible to avoid affecting the project's success.
Confirm alignment of customer expectations and project goals.
Create the Test Plan for each project.
Ensure proper quality assurance and user acceptance of solutions prior to implementation.
Review and finalize deliverables and monitor quality control.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all key stakeholders, including IT and Practice Executives, Directors, Managers, and Resource Allocation Managers.
Collaborate with Resource Managers to ensure resources with required skills are available to support the implementation of solutions.
Manage all resources assigned to projects.
Motivate, guide, and lead implementation project team to achieve organizational goals and satisfy customers.
Proactively identify project and staff‑related issues.
Participate in performance appraisals and contribute to project team performance appraisals.
Develop and track an overall budget for each implementation.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Applied Health Informatics, or related field.
At least 2 years’ experience managing and/or leading IT projects.
In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 6+ years of demonstrated experience managing and/or leading IT projects preferably in an enterprise healthcare and/or ambulatory practice environment.
Experience working with tools to create and manage project plans, such as MS Project, Smartsheets, or other comparable tools.
Preferred:
Knowledge of project management best practices such as PMBOK.
Familiarity with IT Systems Implementation Management.
Familiarity with SDLC, change management, and risk management processes.
Experience managing project budgets and project teams.
Background in managing projects in a matrix environment.
Experience with healthcare EHR/EMR (Cerner), medical equipment, systems, and HL7 interface projects.
Experience with healthcare infrastructure.
Experience with health information technologies.
Master’s degree.
Certified PMP.

Anticipated Pay Range $103,733 - $122,039 per year.
