Principal Electrical Engineer – Clean Energy Systems

About the Role Design the power systems that will drive the energy transition.
We’re seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and implementation of advanced clean energy solutions — from utility‑scale solar PV and battery storage to EV charging infrastructure and microgrids. This role will take ownership of the full engineering lifecycle, shaping grid‑interconnected solutions and delivering high‑impact projects that power communities, schools, and businesses with sustainable energy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design of solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, and off‑grid microgrid systems.
Develop full construction drawing sets (single‑line and three‑line diagrams) in compliance with NEC, IEEE, and utility interconnection standards.
Conduct interconnection studies, prepare applications, and create dynamic system models.
Perform power system studies, including load flow, arc flash, short circuit, harmonic analysis, and protective device coordination.
Conduct site visits to assess infrastructure and determine optimal equipment placement.
Manage vendor relationships and integrate innovative distributed energy resources (DERs).
Collaborate with clients, utilities, and contractors to resolve design issues and RFIs.
Write clear technical reports and proposals, simplifying complex energy solutions.
Ensure compliance with all safety codes, jurisdictional, and utility requirements.
Qualifications
PE license preferred; willingness to obtain required licensure acceptable.
5+ years of experience in power distribution, utility interconnection, or DER systems.
Expertise in solar PV, energy storage, EV infrastructure, and/or microgrids.
Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and utility interconnection procedures.
Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or similar tools for modeling and power studies.
Experience with BOMs, equipment specifications, and routing plans.
Strong balance of technical depth with big‑picture problem solving.
Excellent communication skills to engage clients, regulators, and cross‑functional teams.
