Position Summary Northeastern University seeks a highly motivated and accomplished PhD-trained Post-Doctoral Associate with expertise in pharmaceutical sciences to lead and contribute to academic-industrial collaborative projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing translational research programs that bridge fundamental science with industry-driven innovation in drug discovery, drug delivery, diagnostics, and therapeutic development.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for designing, managing, and executing research projects in close partnership with industrial collaborators, mentoring junior scientists and trainees, and supporting grant- and contract-funded programs that enhance the university's mission of fostering innovation at the academic‑industry interface.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage multi-disciplinary academic-industry collaborative research projects in pharmaceutical sciences, with a focus on drug development, delivery platforms, and biomarker-driven diagnostics
Design, plan, and oversee experimental studies including in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo evaluations
Develop and validate innovative formulations, delivery systems, and analytical methods to meet partner objectives
Prepare, analyze, and interpret complex data; disseminate findings through peer‑reviewed publications, presentations, and technical reports
Write and contribute to research proposals, contracts, and technology transfer documents, supporting funding and commercialization opportunities
Actively contribute to building strategic partnerships with industry, government, and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with strong expertise in drug delivery, formulation science, or translational therapeutics
Minimum of 1‑3 years of post‑graduate or industry research experience (academic-industry partnership experience strongly preferred)
Demonstrated track record of peer‑reviewed publications, patents, and/or technology development in pharmaceutical sciences
Experience working with industry sponsors and collaborative research agreements
Excellent skills in scientific communication, project management, and leadership
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams
Strong technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Drug delivery systems (nanoparticles, liposomes, polymeric formulations)
Biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics
Biomarker discovery and validation (e.g., microRNA, proteomics, diagnostics)
Translational animal models of disease
